Product description:
'Depress-X contains Ginkgo biloba leaf extract and 5-HTP (derived from the seed of the African plant, Griffonia simplicifolia) as its major active ingredients. The novelty of this product, at the present time, is not centered on the antidepressant action of 5-HTP, as this is now well known. Also, its novelty is not centered on an ''anti-stress'' (''antidepressant-like'') activity of Ginkgo extracts since this has also been known for quite some time (i.e., since 1990). The novelty of Depress-X is that the combination of 5-HTP and Ginkgo extract provides a product with activity that differs from that of any known conventional or herbal antidepressant with respect to its molecular mechanism of action. The action of Depress-X depends upon the weak and reversible MAO-inhibitor activity of its Ginkgo ingredient which acts by inhibiting the enzymatic degradation of the serotonin that is formed from its 5-HTP ingredient. By inhibiting the MAO-mediated catabolism of the serotonin that is formed from its precursor (5-HTP), Ginkgo extract enhances the action associated with increased serotonin content of the brain. Uses for the combined dietary supplement, Depress-X, include conditions associated with compromised serotoninergic neurotransmission in the CNS which have been associated with any form of major depression, alternatively termed ''clinical depression'', such as ''unipolar depression'', ''melancholic depression'', or ''atypical depression''; any disorder related to the abnormal consumption of food, such as obesity, bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, any form of hyperphagia or any form of hypophagia; any form of sleep disturbance, such as insomnia, hyposomnia or hypersomnia that may or may not be associated with a clinical diagnosis of major depression; symptoms associated with other neurologic/psychiatric disorders that may or may not be related to major depression; and symptoms associated with major neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s chorea, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.'
